Harold S. Kushner

Harold Samuel Kushner is a prominent American rabbi aligned with the progressive wing of Conservative Judaism, and a popular author. Born in 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, Kushner was educated at Columbia University and later obtained his rabbinical ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1960. He served as the congregational rabbi at Temple Israel in Natick, Massachusetts, from 1966 until his retirement in 1996. Kushner has written extensively on the topics of human suffering, ethics, and the nature of God, often drawing from personal experiences, most notably the death of his son, Aaron, due to progeria.
