Meir Zlotowitz

Rabbi Meir Zlotowitz was an influential figure in Jewish publishing, best known for his role in founding ArtScroll Publications. Born in 1943, Rabbi Zlotowitz initially embarked on a career in commercial art, utilizing his skills to enhance the visual aspects of Jewish texts. His journey into publishing began with a modest project to create a translation and commentary for the Book of Esther, which blossomed into the establishment of ArtScroll, a prominent publisher of Jewish religious texts.

Under Rabbi Zlotowitz's leadership, ArtScroll developed a comprehensive catalog of Jewish books, including prayer books, Talmud, and Torah commentaries, which have become staples in Jewish homes and institutions worldwide. His work is credited with making Jewish texts accessible to Jews of all backgrounds, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of their heritage.

Rabbi Zlotowitz passed away in June 2017, but his legacy endures through the vast library of ArtScroll publications that continue to educate and inspire the Jewish community.
