Healing The Rift: To Build A Shared Jewish Future (Israel Today)

Now is the time to heal the heart-wrenching break made by centuries of Jewish socialists in Europe from the religion that made them socialist, a Judaism they felt forced to abandon as a way of life – because of the hate and narrow-mindedness of the non-Jewish world around them, and because they sacrificed (in a very Jewish way) their inner world of the spirit for what they saw as the urgent political necessities of the hour.
The open societies of the West today have already created the right atmosphere for this sad Jewish rupture to be, finally, healed. But, it must be healed, first, in our own state.
