Understanding Halakha examines the legal methodology of the Geonim and its refinement by RaMBaM. This detailed exploration features a translated, annotated guide to RaMBaM’s Fourteen Principles of Sefer HaMiṣvot and maps the historical split between the Geonic-Sepharadi and Franco-German traditions. It is, at its core, a practical and accessible manual for understanding the national law of the Jewish people.

Jackson Gardner earned a BS in Neuroscience with a minor in Jewish Studies from Emory University. After studying at Yeshivat Darchei Noam in Jerusalem, he now lives in NY with his wife Shirel. He attends Einstein Medical School and aims to practise medicine while pursuing professional rabbinic studies. His interests include halakhic methodologies and the Andalusian tradition. He is also the translator of Understanding Peshat: Ibn Ezra’s Introduction to his Torah Commentary by Da’at Press.
