Meir Leibush ben Yehiel Michel Wisser
Meir Leibush ben Yehiel Michel Wisser, better known as Malbim, was a prominent 19th-century rabbi, biblical commentator, and Jewish philosopher. Born on March 7, 1809, in Volhynia, Russian Empire (now Ukraine), Malbim was recognized for his intellectual prowess from a young age. He served as a rabbi in various communities, including Romania and Germany, and was known for his staunch opposition to the Reform movement, advocating for traditional Jewish law and practice. Malbim's commentaries on the Hebrew Bible are particularly noted for their philological rigor and their blend of pshat (literal interpretation) and drash (homiletic interpretation), providing a deep insight into the text and its teachings.
