Richard L. Rubenstein

Richard L. Rubenstein (1924-2021) was an American educator and theologian well-known for his contributions to the study of the Holocaust and the relationship between religion and violence. He was a pioneer in Jewish-Christian dialogue and his work often focused on the theological implications of the Holocaust for Jewish and Christian thought. Rubenstein's controversial book 'After Auschwitz' challenged traditional Jewish theodicies and argued that the Holocaust necessitated a reevaluation of traditional Jewish beliefs about God's role in human history. Throughout his career, Rubenstein held various academic positions and was a prolific writer, contributing significantly to discussions on religion and ethics.
