Israel Gutman
Israel Gutman was a Polish-born Israeli historian and a survivor of the Holocaust. Born in Warsaw, Poland in 1923, he was active in the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, survived Auschwitz, and was a witness to the horrors of the Holocaust. After the war, he emigrated to Israel, where he became a professor of history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Gutman's work primarily focused on the history of the Holocaust, and he was involved in various projects and institutions dedicated to Holocaust research and memory, including Yad Vashem, Israel's official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust.
