Shmuel Ahituv

Shmuel Ahituv is an esteemed Israeli epigrapher and biblical scholar. Born in 1939, he has made significant contributions to the study of ancient Semitic languages and scripts, particularly those related to the Hebrew Bible. Ahituv served as a professor at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, where he was also the head of the Department of Bible, Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies. His work has been pivotal in interpreting ancient inscriptions and understanding their historical contexts. Ahituv is a recipient of the prestigious Israel Prize for Biblical Studies, awarded in 2015, recognizing his profound impact on the field. His research has not only enriched biblical studies but also provided a clearer picture of the historical and cultural settings of ancient texts.
