Jacob Steinhardt

Jacob Steinhardt was a prominent Israeli painter and woodcut artist, born in 1887 in Zerkow, Germany. He studied art in Germany and was influenced by the Expressionist movement. Steinhardt immigrated to Israel in 1933, where he became a key figure in the Israeli art scene. His works often depicted biblical and Jewish themes, characterized by expressive lines and dramatic compositions. Steinhardt was also a teacher and influenced a generation of Israeli artists. His legacy includes a vast array of paintings, woodcuts, and etchings that explore the cultural and religious life of Jewish people.
