Yosef Y. Schneersohn
Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn (1880–1950) was the sixth Rebbe of the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic dynasty. Born in Lubavitch, Russia, he played a crucial role in the survival and growth of Chabad Hasidism through the turbulent times of the early 20th century, including both World Wars and the rise of Soviet anti-religious campaigns. Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak was known for his strong leadership, deep spiritual insight, and unwavering commitment to Jewish education and Jewish identity, even under extreme adversity. His efforts included clandestine operations to sustain Jewish religious life under Soviet rule, and later, establishing a new center for the Chabad movement in the United States.
