Ogyen Trinley Dorje

Ogyen Trinley Dorje, born in 1985 in Tibet, is recognized as the 17th Karmapa Lama within the Karma Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. He made a dramatic escape from Tibet to India in 2000, gaining international attention. As a spiritual leader, he has focused on issues such as environmental conservation, vegetarianism, and the preservation of Tibetan culture. The Karmapa has also engaged in modernizing Buddhist practices and institutions to better suit contemporary needs, emphasizing the importance of compassion in today's world.
