Hugo Bergmann

Hugo Bergmann was a notable Czech-born Israeli philosopher and librarian. Born in 1883, Bergmann emigrated to Palestine where he became a significant cultural and intellectual figure. He was among the founders of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and served as the first librarian there. Bergmann was a member of Brit Shalom, advocating for a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Jews and Arabs in Palestine through mutual understanding and shared nationhood.
