Adler is best known for his 'Cam Jansen' series, which features a young girl with a photographic memory who solves mysteries, and his 'Picture Book Biography' series, presenting the lives of notable historical figures in an accessible format for young readers.

Before becoming a full-time author, Adler was a math teacher and an editor. His career in writing began in the 1970s, with his first book, 'A Little at a Time,' published in 1976. His works often incorporate his interest in history and his background in mathematics and education, aiming to make complex subjects comprehensible and interesting to children.

Adler's contributions to children's literature have been widely recognized.
