Abraham Isaac Kook

Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook (1865-1935) was the first Ashkenazi chief rabbi of British Mandatory Palestine and is considered one of the fathers of religious Zionism. His writings on Jewish philosophy and mysticism are highly influential, and he is revered for his efforts to reconcile traditional Orthodox Judaism with the modern world. Rabbi Kook was born in Griva, Latvia, then part of the Russian Empire, and was a prodigious student from a young age, delving deeply into Jewish texts and secular studies alike.
