Cecil Roth

Cecil Roth was a British Jewish historian and educator, born on March 5, 1899, in London, England. He was educated at Merton College, Oxford, where he earned a first-class degree in Modern History. Roth was highly prolific, authoring more than 600 articles and several books on Jewish history, art, and culture. His works include 'A History of the Jews in England' and 'The Jewish Contribution to Civilization'. Roth's scholarship was distinguished by its breadth and depth, covering topics from the medieval period to contemporary times. He served as the editor of the 'Encyclopaedia Judaica' from its inception until his death, contributing significantly to Jewish scholarship. Roth held academic positions at several universities and was recognized for his contributions to Jewish history with numerous awards and honors. He passed away on June 21, 1970, leaving behind a legacy of scholarly works that continue to influence the study of Jewish history and culture.
