Ruth Bondy
Ruth Bondy was a prominent Israeli journalist and translator, born in Prague in 1923. She survived the Holocaust, having been deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto and later to Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps. After the war, she immigrated to Israel in 1948. Bondy became known for her work in journalism, particularly with the newspaper 'Davar', and she played a significant role in Israeli media. She was also an acclaimed translator, introducing major works of Czech literature to Hebrew readers. Her translations helped open a window to Czech culture and history for many Israelis. Beyond journalism and translation, Ruth Bondy authored several books that delve into the experiences of Holocaust survivors and the history of Czech Jewry. Her writings contribute significantly to the understanding and documentation of Holocaust histories.
