Judah Aryeh Leib Alter
Judah Aryeh Leib Alter, also known as the Sefat Emet, was a prominent Hasidic rabbi and the leader of the Ger Hasidic dynasty in Poland. Born in 1847 in Warsaw, Poland, he became known for his deep spiritual insight and his scholarly works on Jewish thought and law. The Sefat Emet, a title derived from his main work, reflects his emphasis on truth ('emet') in his teachings and writings.
He succeeded his grandfather, Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Alter, as the leader of the Ger Hasidim, one of the largest and most influential Hasidic groups in Poland. Under his leadership, the movement flourished, attracting thousands of followers. His teachings focused on the inner dimensions of the Torah and Hasidic philosophy, aiming to inspire and elevate the spiritual lives of his followers.
